Hello and Welcome
I am Victor B. Herring, a licensed clinical social worker. I am in private practice in Greenwood Village, Colorado. I have been in full time private practice since 1986. I am currently easing into retirement and am only working two days a week, Mondays and Tuesdays. In my practice I see children and their families, which represents about fifty percent of my caseload. I provide individual psychotherapy to adults and older adolescents. I also see couples for various reasons; marriage counseling, pre-marital counseling, divorce considerations, post divorce contentiousness, and relationship issues between two people regardless of cultural or sexual orientation. In the last several years I have provided reunification therapy for relationships that have become estranged and conflictual. I urge you to explore my website and learn about me.
Philosophy
My focus in providing therapy to my clients is to be trustworthy and create an environment where people can feel safe to explore their difficulties. I treat clients with the respect and dignity we all deserve. That’s the starting point. I listen intently and validate what my clients are saying and experiencing. I offer a restorative relationship to people who often have not had a healthy relationship. I help clients learn healthy ways to problem solve in all aspects of their lives. I use a variety of modalities to attend to my clients needs. I have long since abandoned rigidly adhering to any one approach to psychotherapy. I tailor my approach to the needs presented by my clients. Research has demonstrated over and again that effective psychotherapy has as its core the relationship between therapist and client. It is my responsibility to bring my years of training, education, and experience to that relationship to provide effective therapy for my client. I want to help my clients take responsibility for their lives and issues. Once a client can be responsible for their life, they can also take responsibility for their success. I often tell my clients that my job is to be a mirror and help clients see themselves from angles they don’t or won’t normally look at themselves. If a client likes what he or she sees, wonderful. If they don’t, we need to determine what they would like to see and work on ways to make that happen.
