Education and Certifications
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Colorado State University and graduated in 1975. I received my Master’s degree in Social work (MSW) from the University of Denver in 1978. I have made it a priority to keep up with continuing education experiences by going to numerous workshops in the field of psychotherapy annually.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, the highest level of credentialing by the state of Colorado, earned by having a set number of years of experience, supervision, and passing an exam on clinical issues. I am also a Board Certified Diplomate in clinical Social work, which is a national credential earned by having a set number of years of experience and supervision.
Experience
I have more than thirty two years of full time private practice experience. I have more than forty years of post graduate experience. I worked as a school social worker for Cherry Creek Schools for eight years in primary and secondary settings prior to going into full time private practice. I had a part time private practice for five years while working in the school district. Right now, I limit my practice to seeing adults individually, marital therapy or couples’ counseling, adolescent, child/family therapy, and reunification therapy.
Over the years I have experience in hospitalizations of adult and adolescent populations. I have provided EAP (employee assistance program) clinical services and administrative coordination for two large federal contracts. I have consulted with corporate organizations. I have provided leadership of a clinical corporation to provide services for managed care companies. I had a divorce mediation practice for five years. I am certified as a parent coordinator/decision maker. I have testified as an expert witness in numerous court cases. Prior to going to graduate school I worked for the Division of Youth Services of Colorado in a locked unit for extremely disturbed delinquent adolescents. I also managed a shelter care home in Fort Collins, Colorado immediately after my undergraduate education.
Having been in private practice for quite a few years I have developed my own approaches and ways of looking at life that have been very helpful to my clients, young and old. So, even if you don’t think you really need to be in therapy, you may benefit from some of my knowledge and experience.
